Winnie Harlow, not just known for having a prominent form of the skin condition vitiligo, but confidence, elegance and eternal beauty. She is changing the way the world thinks!

Winnie was born in Toronto, Canada on July 27, 1994. She and her two sisters were raised by a single mother and hairdresser, Lisa Brown.

At an early age of 4, she was diagnozed with Vitiligo, a skin disease made widely known by Michael Jackson. During her school days she was many a times teased as zebra because of the white patches on her skin. The model dropped out of the school never looked back.

Speaking about Vitiligo, she once said, “I get comments that I am a leper. I control how my skin changes, I bleach my skin, my skin’s burned. None of those are true. If one day I’m all black I’m still a model. If one day I’m all white I’m still a model. I am not my skin. I am a model with a skin condition”.

Winnie first spoke publicly about her skin condition in 2011 in a YouTube video titled ‘Vitiligo: A Skin Condition not a Life Changer’.

She is a globally known figure today and is known for her eternal beauty and confidence.

What is Vitiligo exactly?

Vitiligo is a long term skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment. The cause is typically unknown and there is no known cure for the condition at present, but treatments can slow it down. For those with light skin, sunscreen and makeup is all that is typically recommended.

Other treatment options may include steroid creams or phototherapy to darken the light patches. Around 1% of the population is affected by vitiligo.
